Magnetawan River
About
From Algonquin Park headwaters to Georgian Bay, the Magnetawan River runs 175 kilometers through Ontario's shield country with Class I-III water that shifts character as it drops toward Lake Huron. The upper reaches within Algonquin require wilderness portaging between lakes and beaver ponds. Below Burk's Falls, the river settles into Class I-II paddling through the town of Magnetawan, then builds to Class II-III with mandatory portages on the final push to Britt and Georgian Bay. Hydrological Station 02EA011 monitors flows, though optimal CFS ranges aren't established for this Canadian watershed. The Magnetawan drains a significant portion of the Georgian Bay watershed, collecting runoff from the Precambrian shield before emptying into the bay's eastern shore.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
