Quinnipiac River
About
Through New Haven County, the Quinnipiac runs 38 miles of Class I water from Meriden down to Long Island Sound at 320 CFS average flow. The river passes through Sleeping Giant State Park in the Wallingford to North Haven section, where the linear trail system provides multiple access points. Above that, the Meriden to Wallingford stretch covers the upper valley terrain. Optimal flows run 100–600 CFS on USGS gauge 01196500. The Quinnipiac River Watershed Association coordinates outfitting and educational programs along the corridor, which includes the designated Quinnipiac River Linear Trail system connecting the various municipal sections.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
