Broadkill River
About
From Milton to Broadkill Beach, 20 miles of tidal river wind through Sussex County salt marsh within Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge boundaries. The Broadkill runs at roughly 55 CFS through gentle riffles, with optimal paddling between 20–100 CFS, though no USGS gauge monitors this system. The lower 12 miles from Milton meander through brackish marsh toward Broadkill Beach, while refuge sections provide access to managed impoundments and back channels. Quest Kayak operates on this system. Part of the Delaware Coastal Heritage Greenway, the Broadkill serves primarily as a wildlife viewing platform rather than a whitewater run — the riffles are more texture than challenge, and the appeal lies in the refuge's managed waterfowl habitat and tidal marsh corridors.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
