About

Nine major springs discharge into six miles of spring-fed river through Columbia and Suwannee counties, maintaining a constant 72 degrees and crystal clarity over white sand bottom. The Ichetucknee flows at 310 CFS average (optimal 200–400) through Class I water with no technical features — this is a float for watching the springs and aquatic life below. The upper three miles from the headspring to the midpoint pass the major spring vents and clearest pools. Below the midpoint, the river widens for three miles to Dampier Landing under a canopy of cypress and hardwood. The Timucua people held these springs sacred as their homeland. Ichetucknee Springs State Park, established in 1970, manages river access and runs canoe rentals. The National Natural Landmark designation protects the karst geology that sustains the spring flow year-round.
