Rainbow River
About
Rainbow Springs pushes 310 CFS of crystal-clear water through six miles of Marion County spring run, all of it classified Outstanding Florida Water within the state's aquatic preserve system. The upper three miles from the headspring to KP Hole flow through Rainbow Springs State Park as a narrow, gin-clear channel over white sand. Below KP Hole, the river widens for three miles to its confluence with the Withlacoochee, passing residential development along both banks. At Class I with optimal flows between 200–400 CFS, the Rainbow requires no technical paddling skills — the draw is visibility to the bottom and the constant cool temperature that spring-fed systems provide. USGS gauge 02313100 tracks the flows, though spring-fed rivers like this one maintain remarkably stable levels year-round. Rainbow River Kayak Adventures operates from the state park, handling shuttle logistics for paddlers floating the full six-mile run.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
