Toccoa River
About
Blue Ridge Dam tailwater releases create 30 miles of premier trout water and Class I–II paddling through Fannin County's Chattahoochee National Forest. At 680 CFS average (optimal 300–1,200), the Toccoa runs cold and clear below the dam with consistent trout-holding water. Deep Hole to Shallowford Bridge offers the best whitewater at Class II–III, while the lower stretch from Shallowford Bridge to McCaysville drops back to Class I–II for scenic floating. Georgia Scenic River designation protects the corridor through national forest lands. Toccoa Valley Outfitters and Rolling Thunder River Company provide guided trips and gear rental. USGS gauge 03559000 tracks the dam releases that sustain both the fishery and reliable paddling flows year-round.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
