Anahulu River
About
From the 1921 Anahulu Stream Bridge through Haleiwa's tidal estuary, this six-mile Oahu waterway flows at just 35 CFS average through mangroves and palms. The Anahulu — "Ten Days" in Hawaiian — runs mostly flat water optimal between 10-150 CFS, though no USGS gauge monitors flows. The lower mile forms a tidal estuary where Surf-N-Sea Haleiwa and Rainbow Bridge Kayak launch SUPs and kayaks from the historic bridge, itself listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Above the bridge, the upper Anahulu narrows without public access. The stream flows through the Haleiwa Historic District in Honolulu County, maintaining the slow, tropical character that made this stretch a traditional launching point for centuries before European contact in 1778.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
