Eel River
About
From Allen County headwaters through 103 miles of northern Indiana farmland and woodlots, the Eel River maintains consistent riffles at an average 420 CFS. The upper 30 miles to North Manchester run narrow and wooded, while the middle 40 miles to Logansport open into wider meanders through agricultural bottomland. The final 20 miles continue to the Wabash confluence. At optimal flows between 200-700 CFS, the Eel provides reliable Class I paddling through Allen and Whitley counties, with USGS gauge 03328000 tracking conditions. Eel River Canoe Rental serves the corridor, and the river holds candidate status for Indiana Heritage River designation.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
