Muscatatuck River
About
Vernon to North Vernon covers 15 miles of the Muscatatuck's best limestone bluff water, cutting through Jennings and Jackson counties at 480 CFS average flow. The river runs 100 miles total before joining the White River, with riffles rather than true rapids defining the gradient. Optimal flows range 200–800 CFS on USGS gauge 03367000. The Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge provides paddle access through protected bottomland, while the lower 20 miles to the White River confluence widen and slow considerably. Indiana has the river under consideration for Scenic River designation. Muscatatuck Outfitters serves the corridor for paddlers who prefer guided trips or gear rental.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
