Whitewater River
About
Through Franklin and Dearborn counties, the Whitewater River drops 96 miles from canal country to Class II-III whitewater at an average 1,400 CFS. The upper stretch from Brookville to Metamora runs Class I-II through old canal corridors, while the lower section from Metamora to Harrison offers the best whitewater at Class II-III. Optimal flows range from 400 to 2,000 CFS on USGS gauge 03275000. Whitewater Memorial State Park protects a corridor along the route, and the river holds candidate status for Indiana Natural & Scenic designation. Whitewater Canoe Rental operates outfitting services on the system.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
