Whiskey Chitto Creek
About
Louisiana's Whiskey Chitto Creek runs 60 miles through Allen and Beauregard parishes at an average 480 CFS, with paddleable flows from 200 to 1,200 CFS on gauge 08013720. Designated a Louisiana Natural and Scenic River in 2018, the creek splits into distinct characters: the upper section from Oakdale to Mittie stays narrow and intimate, while the lower stretch opens wider with sandbars before reaching its confluence. Class I-II water throughout makes it accessible to most paddlers, though the higher end of the flow range can push some features toward the harder side of Class II. Whiskey Chitto Canoe Rental operates along the system for those without their own boats.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
