Little Muskegon River
About
Through Mecosta and Newaygo counties, the Little Muskegon runs 50 miles of narrow forest meanders before joining its larger namesake. At 220 CFS average, this tributary carried log drives through the 1860s and 1890s alongside the main stem. The upper section from Morley to Croton threads tight wooded corridors, while below Croton the channel opens and gentles toward the confluence. Trout habitat restoration work in 2012 improved spawning areas throughout the system. Optimal flows run 100–400 CFS on gauge 04121944. Little Muskegon Paddle Co. runs trips on the lower sections where the riffles ease and the forest opens up.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
