Middle Branch Ontonagon River
About
Wild & Scenic designation protects 21 miles of the Middle Branch Ontonagon River through U.S. Forest Service lands. At 166 CFS average flow, the river runs best between 80–250 CFS on USGS gauge 04033000. Three main sections define the paddling: Watersmeet Canoe Landing to Burned Dam Campground, Burned Dam Campground to Interior Bridge, and Interior Bridge to Bond Falls Flowage. The upper reach from Watersmeet provides the put-in for longer trips, while the middle section around Burned Dam Campground offers forest service camping. The lower stretch terminates at Bond Falls Flowage, where the river backs up behind the impoundment.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
