Zumbro River
About
From Rochester's urban core through Driftless bluff country to the Mississippi confluence, the Zumbro River runs 78 miles of Class I-II water across Olmsted and Wabasha counties. At 720 CFS average with an optimal range from 200 to 1,500 CFS, the river offers smallmouth bass fishing on its South Fork through Rochester, then opens into the main stem from Oronoco to Zumbro Falls where limestone bluffs frame the paddling corridor. The lower Zumbro from the falls to the Mississippi widens into Class I water with heavier flows. Minnesota DNR designates the upper branches as trout streams, while the main corridor became the Zumbro River Water Trail in 2010. Zumbro Bottoms operates as the primary outfitter on this system, and paddlers can check conditions on USGS gauge 05374500 before launching.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
