Tallahala Creek
About
Through the Choctaw Pine Hills of Jasper and Smith counties, Tallahala Creek cuts 80 miles of Class I water from Bienville National Forest to its confluence with the Leaf River. The upper 40 miles run through remote forest corridor to Laurel, while the lower 40 miles widen through bottomlands. At 420 CFS average with an optimal range of 100–800, the creek flows year-round through protected national forest watersheds. Tallahala Creek Paddle Service provides outfitting for sections that can stretch multiple days through undeveloped corridors. The watershed gained National Forest Watershed Protection status in 2012, maintaining the forested buffer that keeps water temperatures cool and debris loads manageable.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
