Paulins Kill Valley Trail · Kittatinny Valley State Park

About

Through Sussex and Warren counties, the Paulins Kill runs 41 miles from Newton down to the Delaware River, cutting through limestone valley terrain that shapes both its character and its clarity. The upper section from Newton to Blairstown offers Class I–II water through the heart of the limestone country, while the lower stretch from Blairstown to the Delaware settles into Class I meandering through the broader valley floor. At 320 CFS average with an optimal range of 100–600, the Paulins Kill responds well to seasonal variations without becoming unrunnable. Kittatinny Canoes operates on the river, and sections flow through Kittatinny Valley State Park. The Paulins Kill Valley Trail follows portions of the corridor. USGS gauge 01443500 tracks the flows that determine whether the upper limestone section will show its riffles or run flat.
