Nolichucky River
About
Commercial rafters run the eight-mile Nolichucky Gorge on flows averaging 1,408 CFS, with optimal conditions between 700–2,100 CFS according to gauge 03465500. The Nolichucky pushes Class I-II water through most of the gorge, though the III designation suggests some drops can kick harder when flows rise. U.S. Forest Service manages the corridor, keeping development minimal along the run. At higher flows within the optimal range, this becomes a pushy wilderness float with enough volume to carry loaded rafts through the technical sections.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
