Cuyahoga River
About
Through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, 85 miles of river wind between Summit and Cuyahoga counties at an average 820 CFS, with optimal paddling conditions from 300–1500 CFS on USGS gauge 04208000. The Peninsula to Brecksville stretch runs through the park's core on Class I water, while below Brecksville to Independence the river cuts a deeper gorge with Class I–II features. Ohio designated this a Scenic River, and the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad parallels sections of the waterway. The river's flow regime supports year-round paddling opportunities when flows stay within the optimal range, though urban influences mean checking the gauge is essential before launching.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
