Through Tuscarawas and Coshocton counties, the Tuscarawas runs 130 miles of Class I water averaging 1,600 CFS before joining the Muskingum at Coshocton. The river flows within the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area, paralleling the historic canal route that once connected Lake Erie to the Ohio River. From Bolivar to Zoar covers 15 miles through this canal history corridor, passing the Zoar Village National Historic Site. Below Zoar, the next 20 miles to Dover follow a valley section before the river widens for its final 50 miles to the Muskingum confluence. Optimal flows run 500–3,000 CFS on USGS gauge 03115900.
