Owyhee River
About
Wild & Scenic designation protects 120 miles of the Owyhee River as it cuts through Bureau of Land Management canyon country. At 882 CFS average, with optimal flows between 450–1300 CFS, the river runs Class I-II through high desert gorges that require advance coordination with BLM for permitted launches. USGS gauge 13181000 tracks the flows that determine whether the narrow canyon sections remain navigable or drop too low for loaded boats. The Owyhee functions as a designated water trail through some of the most remote country in the interior West, where multi-day expeditions are the standard approach to accessing the protected corridor.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
