Slate Run
About
Heritage Trout Angling waters through Lycoming County hold wild brook trout in the headwaters above Cushman Branch, transitioning to wild brown trout through the middle and lower sections down to Pine Creek. Slate Run covers 14 miles of riffled water at 95 CFS average, with optimal flows between 50–250 CFS on gauge 01548500. The upper section above Cushman Branch remains native brook trout water, while the middle stretch from Cushman Branch to Manor Fork and the lower run from Manor Fork to the Pine Creek confluence hold progressively larger wild brown trout populations. Pennsylvania designated these waters for catch-and-release fly fishing only in 1996, part of the Heritage Trout Angling program that protects the state's premium wild trout streams. Slate Run Tackle Shop serves as the local outfitter for this Pine Creek tributary that flows through what was once Pennsylvania Wilds hunting country.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
