Spring Creek
About
Spring-fed flows of 130 CFS average sustain Pennsylvania's most famous wild trout water through 24 miles of Centre County limestone country. Spring Creek earned Class A Wild Trout designation with strict catch-and-release regulations and no harvest allowed. The upper stretch from Boalsburg to Houserville covers five miles of intimate spring water, while Fisherman's Paradise in Bellefonte holds the state's most recognized catch-and-release pool. Below Bellefonte, the creek widens through Milesburg on its final miles. At optimal flows of 60–250 CFS, Spring Creek offers consistent rifle water rather than true rapids, with USGS gauge 01546500 tracking conditions. TCO Fly Shop in State College serves as the local outfitter for this demanding fishery that draws technical dry fly anglers from across the Mid-Atlantic.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
