Woonasquatucket River
About
Through Providence County's 18-mile corridor, the Woonasquatucket carries an average 100 CFS from North Smithfield down to its confluence with the Providence River. Class I water throughout, the river runs optimal between 50–300 CFS on gauge 01114500. The upper section from North Smithfield to Johnston passes through suburban development, while the lower stretch from Johnston to Providence flows through the city's urban revival zone where WaterFire Providence stages its installations. Providence Kayak Company operates on this lower section. The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council coordinates restoration and access efforts along the corridor.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
