Chattooga River
About
Wild & Scenic designation protects 28 miles of the Chattooga River through U.S. Forest Service corridors, with flows averaging 649 CFS and optimal conditions between 325–975 CFS. The river runs Class II-III water across three distinct sections managed by the Forest Service. Section 2 offers the mildest introduction to Chattooga paddling. Section 3 steps up the technical demands while remaining accessible to intermediate boaters. Section 4 delivers the most sustained whitewater challenge of the three managed stretches. USGS gauge 02177000 provides the critical flow readings that determine whether conditions suit your skill level and boat choice.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
