About

At 771 CFS average flow through 46 miles of Class I(II) water, the Buffalo River runs as a designated water trail with optimal conditions between 375–1150 CFS. USGS gauge 03604000 tracks the flows that determine whether the occasional Class II features push harder or settle back to gentle riffles. The river breaks into seven defined sections: from Grinders Creek down to Texas Bottom Bridge, then Texas Bottom Bridge to Buffalo Canoeing, followed by Buffalo Canoeing to Topsy Bridge. Below that, Topsy Bridge to Bell Bridge connects to Bell Bridge to Slink Shoals, with the final stretch running Slink Shoals to Flatwoods Bridge. The I(II) classification indicates mostly easy water with scattered features that can intensify during higher flows within the optimal range.
