Citico Creek
About
Above the falls in the Citico Creek Wilderness, native brook trout hold in pocket water accessible only by hiking trail — no roads penetrate the upper watershed. This 17-mile Monroe County stream averages 75 CFS through the Cherokee National Forest, with optimal flows between 30 and 180 CFS on gauge 03518400. The middle section supports wild rainbow trout in deep pools and runs, while the lower water builds toward its confluence with the Tellico River. Designated wilderness in 1984, Citico Creek runs mostly riffles and pocket water rather than true rapids. The upper native brook trout water requires commitment — it's hike-in fishing through roadless country. Tellico Outfitters provides access and guidance for anglers working the lower and middle sections.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
