Tennessee River
About
Designated as a Water Trail, the Tennessee River flows 93 miles at Class II-III through a series of impounded sections averaging 2,427 CFS. Optimal flows run 1,200–3,650 CFS on USGS gauge 07029500. The river passes through multiple put-ins and take-outs including Volunteer Landing, Marine Park, Island Home Park, Sequoyah facilities, and various county parks and boat docks. Sections range from the Chickamauga Dam tailwater through urban stretches near Knoxville to more remote segments like the run from Carl Cowan Park to Poland Creek. The Water Trail designation provides coordinated access points and river information for paddlers navigating the impounded sections and occasional Class II-III features.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
