Green River
About
Desolation Canyon cuts through sandstone walls along the Green River's Wild & Scenic corridor, managed by the Bureau of Land Management across 216 miles of desert country. The river drops through Class II-III(IV) water with pushier features possible at higher flows. Six major sections define the character: Desolation Canyon in the upper reaches, Upper and Lower Gray Canyon through the middle desert, Browns Park where the river opens up, the Ouray to Sand Wash stretch, and Labyrinth Canyon toward the lower end. USGS gauge 09314700 tracks conditions, though optimal flows depend on which section you're running and what kind of boat you're in. The BLM manages permits and access for multi-day trips through the canyon system.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
