Otter Creek
About
At 112 miles, Otter Creek runs the length of Vermont's marble country from Rutland through Addison County to Lake Champlain. The creek averages 860 CFS with an optimal range from 200 to 1,500 CFS, maintaining Class I character throughout its length. From Rutland to Brandon, the creek cuts through marble-rich terrain before reaching the college town approach at Middlebury, then continuing through Lake Champlain lowlands to Vergennes. Vermont Canoe & Kayak operates guided trips along the creek, which falls under the Vermont Rivers Management Program and includes protected sections designated as the Otter Creek Natural Area. USGS gauge 04282000 monitors flows for paddlers planning multi-day trips on what ranks as one of Vermont's longest continuous paddling routes.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
