Wenatchee River
About
Tumwater Canyon drops through technical Class III–IV water that defines iconic Washington whitewater, while the gentler Leavenworth to Monitor corridor handles most of the Wenatchee River's commercial traffic. The 53-mile run through Chelan and Kittitas counties averages 3,100 CFS with an optimal range of 1,500–5,000 CFS on USGS gauge 12462500. Above Leavenworth, the upper reaches flow through Wenatchee National Forest before the river opens into the popular Class II–III stretch that outfitters like Leavenworth Outdoor Center and Osprey Rafting run regularly. Below Monitor, the gradient eases to Class I–II water suitable for family floats down to the Columbia confluence. The Wenatchee River Corridor Recreation Area manages access and camping along the middle sections, where most paddlers encounter this snowmelt-fed system during its peak flows.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
