Flambeau River
About
Outstanding Resource Waters designation protects 60 miles of the Flambeau River as it cuts through the Flambeau River State Forest in Price and Rusk counties. At 1,600 CFS average flow, this is substantial water that ranges from Class I pools to Class III drops depending on the section. The river runs optimally between 600–3,000 CFS, monitored at USGS gauge 05359500. Flambeau River Lodge operates guided trips on the system. The state forest designation keeps the corridor undeveloped, with put-ins and takeouts accessible through forest roads rather than commercial development.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
