Red River
About
Class II-III(IV) drops define the Red River's 54-mile run, with optimal flows between 70–200 CFS on a 139 CFS average. The gradient pushes technical at higher water, where Class III features can build to Class IV intensity. Key sections include the stretch from Weed Dam Powerhouse to Zeimer's Falls and the run from Red River Park to Highway A. USGS gauge 04077630 tracks the flows that determine whether paddlers face moderate Class II-III water or the more demanding Class IV conditions that emerge when the river rises. Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources manages access and river corridors along the route.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
