Sugar River
About
Wisconsin's Sugar River flows 111 miles at an average of 394 CFS, with optimal paddling conditions between 200 and 600 CFS. USGS gauge 05436500 provides current readings for trip planning. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources manages access and maintains several defined sections: White Crossing Road to Valley Road, Riverside Road to Paoli, and Avon Bottoms to Colored Sands Forest Preserve. Each section offers different character along the Sugar's length, from agricultural stretches to more forested corridors approaching the preserve lands.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
