Mohican River
About
Clear Fork Gorge cuts through a hemlock canyon with Class II-III drops before joining the main stem through Mohican State Park in Ashland and Knox counties. The Mohican runs 25 miles total at 680 CFS average, with optimal flows between 300-1500 CFS on gauge 03136000. The gorge section offers the most technical water, while the main Mohican downstream runs Class I-II past sandstone bluffs. Protected as an Ohio Scenic River and flowing through Mohican Memorial State Forest, the river maintains a corridor of old-growth hemlock and mixed hardwood that creates deep pools and undercut banks. The contrast between the steep gorge drops and the mellower main stem gives paddlers options depending on flow and skill level.
River conditions are community-verified. CFS ranges, difficulty ratings, and access points may not reflect every flow level or seasonal change. Always check current conditions, scout unfamiliar rapids, and paddle within your skill level.
